  1. The NARAS Archive and Preservation Committee was formed two 
  2. years ago with the goal of ensuring that irreplaceable recordings 
  3. will be preserved for both our generation and those to follow.  
  4. To that end, the Committee has set out to:

  6. - Examine the current archival procedures within the vaults of 
  7. record companies and recording studios throughout the country.
  8.  
  9. - Work in close association with other agencies active in the 
  10. field of archival research and planning.
  11.  
  12. - Study technological innovations and advances in 
  13. recording playback and storage devices for potential use in 
  14. the storage and retrieval areas of archiving.
  15.  
  16. - Study the current state of cataloging masters and the need for a 
  17. master directory to be used to locate recordings throughout the world.
  18.  
  19. - Ensure that the creation of an archival copy becomes an 
  20. integral part of the production and duplication process.

  22. - Identify "recordings at risk" and work toward their preservation.
